Roll Ball, which was an idea of a Pune-based physical education teacher Raju Dabhade, got its recognition on the global level with Aditya. Under his captaincy, the Indian squad is currently among the top teams and has won five World Cup tournaments.
He says, “the first time I started practicing this game was in the year 2000. I was a speed skater and Raju sir approached me to try out the game. I liked the concept so much that I instantly agreed to be a part of the game and have been playing it regularly over the years. It feels nice to be known as one of the first players of the game.”
One needs to have enough guts to choose a sport that was not even recognized in India when it came into existence back in the year 2003. But it was Aditya’s dedication towards the game that he not only engaged players from India but also from various parts of the world. The game, today, has more than a thousand players across the globe now.
The Roll Ball World Cup, held every two years, and South Asian Championships see teams from Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Pakistan, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Great Britain, Netherlands, Sweden, Belgium, China, Bangladesh, Guyana, Uganda, Kuwait, Nepal, Kenya and more participating.
